Blessed with a carafe that pours without dripping, a water filter, and touchpad electronic controls, this coffeemaker provides safety, convenience, and a host of options for brewing 12 5-ounce cups at once. The carafe is calibrated for both filling the reservoir properly and for judging the amount of brewed coffee and the water filter improves taste by reducing chlorine. The control panel provides a 24-hour clock/timer for brewing "wake-up" coffee and permits the nonstick warming plate's temperature to be set as desired. Other features include a calibrated window on each side for monitoring the water reservoir's level, a hinged cover that flips back to reveal both reservoir and coffee filter, and cord storage.  Not Holding Up Very Well February 6, 2010

First the good news: this is a decent enough coffee maker. The warming plate has an auto shut off feature that is convenient. The door to the tank is wide, and the carafe is dishwasher safe.
By the way, that tank door opens quite high. This could be an problem for you if you had planned to put the coffee maker under a counter.
Now the bad news: my unit is less than a year old, and the finish has worn off the warming plate, which is now rusting. There is absolutely no excuse for this.
I did not make a video review, but I am thinking of posting a picture on the product page.
All in all, I was expecting more from B&D than I received in this product.
Between the finish of the warming plate and the problems that others have reported with the 'steal-a-cup' feature, it's clear to me that B&D has some quality issues they need to address. I wish them the best of luck with that, but when this coffee maker wears out (which I expect to be any time now), I will not be replacing it with another Black & Decker product.

I bought this coffeemaker because I was moving into an apartment that required an auto-shutoff feature for all coffeemakers, and this was the best one I found through my extensive research. My previous coffeemaker didn't have the safety features I needed, so I ended up getting this one at a local hardware store. I love it! It makes great coffee! The best coffeemaker I've ever owned! And it does have the safety features I need.
My only issue with it is it's too big! I couldn't find anything smaller than a 12 cup coffeemaker with the automatic shutoff feature. I solve this problem by brewing four to six servings at a time and then keeping what I don't drink in the fridge. When I need the caffine, I'll reheat a cup. I only need to brew coffee every few days that way.
The carafe is really easy to pour from. I saw some reviews saying that the spout dripped; perhaps those people had gotten defective carafes. I've never had any dripping problems with the carafe.
I've never used the programming feature. But if I decide I want coffee every day instead of three to five days a week, I'll probably end up learning how to use that feature. It's good to have it on there.
Overall, a great machine to have.

The coffee maker works wonderfully except that the coffee is not hot enough. I have resorted to microwaving my cup for 40 seconds to get a decent temperature.
 JUNK - Not your Dad's Black and Decker Anymore September 3, 2009

Bought the Smartbrew after our Krupps finally kicked it after 6 years. Although this machine looks great and made a decent cup, liked the design of the spread out drip system, THE ELECTRONICS DIED after two months. The digital display flickered one day and the machine stopped working completely the next! By the way it was VERY noisy while brewing. Sadly it's not our dad's Black and Decker's anymore.

I have had this for 3 weeks now and it does the job. It isn't fancy but it works for making my morning coffee and keeps it warm for quite awhile until it automatically turns off - a must for me.
