Coffee always leaks onto the hot plate March 8, 2010 K. Wang (California) This coffee maker is not designed well. The coffee actually drips (leaks) onto the hot plate every time you try to make coffee.
There's a lever that sits along the back wall where the carafe sits... I believe that it's there to check if the carafe is in place before it allows fluid to drip... unfortunately, it also allows fluid to drip down onto the hot plate.
Try another coffee maker...
Poor quality and crappy customer service, avoid the brand March 3, 2010 Tracey Clark 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Originally I was impressed by the front loading feature and the "aroma" brewing feature of this coffee maker. At this point, I would warn people to stay away from this coffee maker entirely.
The clock is very inconvenient to set. You only have the option to scroll forward, minute by minute, through all 24 hours of the day. There is no way to go backward, only forward. There isn't even a way to change am / pm, you must scroll through all 24 hours. This makes it a chore to reset the clock in case of a power outage or change the auto brew time. Really, could they not put an extra button or two on the front and make the clock workable? These features have been around in other digital clocks for quite some time.
What makes me warn people away from the coffee machine is that it dribbles horribly. During brewing, coffee dribbles down the carafe lever and onto the burner. After reading other reviews, many other people have complained about it. When I wrote to DeLonghi to complain and ask about a replacement, they refused to do anything since the unit is out of warranty. They didn't even recommend where I could get the unit repaired, they brushed me off. Save yourself the frustration and go with another brand that has more reliable engineering and better customer service. I am staying away from the DeLonghi brand entirely.
Just another okay coffee maker, nothing special. February 28, 2010 No one of consequence (Cincinnati) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using this machine for about six months now, and have been reasonably satisfied with it. I love the front access design since I keep it under my cabinet, and the 12 cup capacity is also a plus. The black and steel gives it a great look that goes well with my other appliances. I use mine with standard paper filters rather than the mesh basket just for convenience. The brew speed is painfully average (I used Bunns for years and got a bit spoiled), but having a programmable machine essentially removes this consideration for the first pot of the morning.
Speaking of the programming, this is probably the one real negative I have seen. Whoever designed this should be flogged. It's a single button each for the clock and the timer, and you have to cycle completely around a 24 hour clock to get to the time you want. And heaven forbid you go past, because you'll have to start again. Very poor thinking, that. I noticed many other reviewers complaining about leakage, but I haven't seen a bit of it. Overall I would rate this as a decent machine, worth the money, but nothing to write home about.
Weak coffee February 22, 2010 H. Richardson I loved this machine when I brought it home. It is well-designed, convenient in its compartments and beautiful in a way no other coffee machine is. It was a joy to use. Unfortunately, my DeLonghi only ever produced a weak pot of coffee. I tried everything: different coffee varieties, different grinds, different amounts of grounds, permanent filter, paper filters, aroma button, no aroma button, but nothing ever produced a satisfying cup. I found myself looking forward to using my fiance's fifteen-year-old Sunbeam coffee maker which, much to my surprise, made better coffee than my charming and sleek DeLonghi. I finally got fed up with the situation and returned it. I miss its design, but not its coffee.
not so hot, very slow February 19, 2010 E. Strader (TN, USA) We have this coffee maker in the student lounge at school. It is convenient to fill both coffee filter and with water but even without the aroma button on, it takes a very long time (longer than students have) to complete a brew cycle. The coffee isn't as hot as other coffee makers I have experience with either. No problem with any leaks.
